[It was different when he had someone looking over his vitals, let alone his most trusted friend. But his head lifts up to meet his gaze, feeling his hand slide across his shoulder plating. It was authoritative and yet it had a gentleness to it. How Optimus ever managed that combination, he may never know. It was a strange combination, and his leader pulled it off very well.

His optics meet the taller autobots. They are alert and attentive as they jolt ever so slightly, taking in the details on the others face.]

Y...yes. You have a very good point Optimus.

[That, Ratchet, is exactly how Optimus feels when you tend to him. Although not as awkward, as medicine isn't his area of expertise, but just having someone look after him in such a way, worry over him... War could do many things to a bot--take away all of the things that a doctor should have.

Ratchet kept them, and nowhere was it more noticeable than here. And Optimus appreciated it more than he could ever express.]

I have been told I make those often.

[A joke? NAHHHH.]

It seems you are within parameters. Your energon intake, however... is slightly low.

[Ratchet's eyes flicker back down at the scanner. Well, that was true, they were a little low. He didn't want to take too much energon, especially with their team going out into the battle field more than a few times a week. They needed as much energon as they could muster, especially if someone were to return injured.

The medic rubs the back of his head, almost sheepishly.]

I haven't had my weekly dose yet. I've been busy with the blasted tech. [Ratchet gestures with his hand back to the main console they were just at. Totally a perfect reason for it.]

It must have slipped my mind.

[He could see the logic in it. Ratchet didn't leave the base, so it would make sense for him to lower his intake of Energon. At least...that was the logic Ratchet would probably have on that.

Optimus...he didn't want one of his own team suffering. Going hungry, in plain terms.]

I see.

Then it is fortunate I gave you a glance over, hmm?

[He rests his hand on the scanner and nods.]

Yes. It was very fortunate. However [He stands up with a soft grunt.] I will wait until our team returns from their mission. [Who knows what might happen on those Energon runs.]

I should be fine until then.

[As he stands, his hands hover around the medic, ready to catch him if for a millisecond he lost his balance. Nothing meant to offend, just looking out for him.

It was a Prime thing.]

Then you would not be averse to me keeping you company until then.

No, not at al--

[Indeed, the medic does loose his balance, feeling his head tink against Optimus' chest plating. He quickly lifts his head, blinking owlishly as he looks at his reflection in the metal. He quickly inspects for any scuffing and lifts his hands, as if he could fix it, but quickly lowers his hands.]

My apologies, got up too fast.

[Oh Primus.]

[He could not have been more grateful for his spotting. When Ratchet goes down, those arms grip him, although not soon enough for his head to tink gently across his chest.

Ratchet's behavior was expected, of course, but he couldn't help but smile softly.]

You have nothing to apologize for, old friend. Even the quickest of medical examinations can leave an Autobot fatigued.

[He's attempting to make light, really.]

[He wouldn't expect anything less from his leader. He was prepared for anything, even the small things. Ratchet regains his footing and stares up at the taller autobot.]

Thank you, I appreciate it.

[He realizes he's staring a bit too long and clears his throat. The medic shifts and moves to turn off the console. Wouldn't want to waste anymore energon with machines sitting idly.]

[All Ratchet gets in response to that is a firm nod, with a smile. It's soft, almost delicate, and if you blinked you may have missed it. But there was a certain twinkle in his eyes, as he makes sure Ratchet is now stable.]

Perhaps we could wait for their arrival together.

[Oh he didn't miss that. Not for a nanosecond. And he smiles, even a little more than he usually does. He stands tall, with confidence.]

The company would be greatly appreciated, Optimus.

[And, just then, a hand extends out to the medic for him to take if he should wish. Invitingly, of course. After all, he didn't want Ratchet to slip again.

But Primes were often more...secretive in their true motives, weren't they?]

[It earns a curious look from his medic. Ratchet almost double takes before he rests his smaller hand within his leader's.

But he doesn't pay it any mind. Holding hands wasn't unheard of after all. Perhaps Optimus wanted reassurance.]

[Reassurance was...one way to describe it. Those thin fingers envelope over the more blunt hand of the medics, lacing their fingers together for just merely a moment.

Before leading him over to sit by the raised level where the kids usually sat.]

[Ratchet gladly follows Optimus and even squeezes back on his hand. His chest swells and he is lead but tries to level the sudden anxious feeling in his very core.

Neatly and carefully, he takes a seat next to Optimus.]

[There's reciprocation, at least. He can't help but smile at it as they both take a seat.]

It is hard to believe that it has been almost two years since Decepticon activity.

[He nods. It had been quite some time since there had been any sign of them. It made the medic relieved, and worried. Ratchet stares ahead of himself, pulling his knees closer to himself, almost stubbornly.]

Who knows what they're planning. Then again, they're all nothing without Megatron, and with Starscream at the wheel. For all we know he could have ran them straight into the ground.

[He could sense the tension in his friend, opting to place that hand back on his shoulder assuringly. War was never easy on anyone, especially a medic.

That only meant that Optimus had to be there for him more.]

Perhaps you are right, old friend. But we must not let that lower our guard.

Megatron's absence does not necessarily mean his extinction.

I know.

[He almost leans into that hand and closes his optics. If Optimus wasn't around, he was sure that his own sanity would be at risk.]

If only that were the case.

Mm. Perhaps...

[Although, Optimus would have rather tried to change Megatron's mind before extinguishing his spark. That was always the way of Optimus--use words until there is just no other option.]

[He shook his head. Here they were, talking about decepticons when there were none to be found as of yet.

Ratchet stares at the empty groundbridge thoughtfully.]

Optimus. [He pauses, trying to collect his thoughts.]

If Megatron were to be... 'dealt with' in the future. What will you do afterwards?

[What would happen to their team?]

[Now that was an interesting question. To be honest, Optimus had never really thought much about what HE would do. His team? They would live out their lives here, or on some other planet, without fear of being persecuted.

Himself...he knew his faults, his guilts.

Every day he was reminded of them.]

I would...see to it that our team was properly taken care of.

[Always thinking of others first, Prime.]

[He shifts in place to get a better look up at Optimus.]

We're always taken care of by you, Optimus. Even now. [He gestures to the empty ground bridge.]

You're sitting here, waiting for our team's arrival from an energon scouting mission.

Besides, you're always here for us, no matter what. But even after we're all taken care of, like you said, what then? What will a Prime like yourself do?

[A Prime? Being idle? It could only last for so long...]

[With that, he falls silent, his eyes carefully dodging the medic's gaze. He really didn't want to admit this--he was a Prime, after all. He was supposed to have the answers.

That I cannot say, Ratchet. I...

[It was rare for him to hear those words from Optimus. He couldn't even remember the last time he did hear that from his leader.

The medic is quiet for a long moment before a soft sigh passes his vents and he stretches his legs outward on the floor in front of himself. He glances up at him.]

Whatever you do, I... would like to be by your side, if you would allow it.

[Honestly, he wouldn't know what he'd do with himself if the Prime wasn't around. Sure, he could handle the team, but he wasn't of leadership quality, unlike Optimus.]
